Dubai – United Arab Emirates, 7th of February 2018: The UAE International Dental Conference & Arab Dental Exhibition – AEEDC Dubai 2018, continued on its 2nd day, featuring a number of scientific activities, sessions, symposiums, workshops and lectures by world renowned dentists from the UAE and abroad.

A number of important topics in dentistry were discussed during the day including advances in pediatrics, the importance of oral and dental care during early childhood, prevention of tooth decay, establishing healthy oral care habits in children and ‘Stomatologie Aujourd’hui’, a dedicated dental session in French language, specially catering to the needs of visitors and participants who speak French.

Additionally, on the second day, AEEDC Dubai hosted the 15th Global Scientific Dental Alliance Meeting – GSDA, which featured the participation of 133 members from dental institutions from the UAE and abroad in addition to leading dignitaries, heads of dental associations, world-renowned dentists and deans of dental colleges and universities.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman of AEEDC Dubai and GSDA, Professor Abdullah Al Shammery, Scientific Advisor to the Executive Office of the Health Ministers Council of GCC States, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Riyadh Private Colleges and Scientific Head of the Federation, Dr. Nasser Al Malik, Chairman, Scientific Committee of AEEDC Dubai, Dr. Tariq Khoory, Honorary Chairman of AEEDC Dubai, Dr. Mohammed Jafar Abedin, Scientific Vice Chairman of AEEDC Dubai, and a number of leading dignitaries from the field.

In this occasion, Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman of AEEDC Dubai and the GSDA, said: “We are very proud to organize the 15th Global Scientific Dental Alliance with 133 participating members, representatives and heads of dental associations. Dubai has become a global hub for science and innovation and every year the GSDA meeting attracts the most prominent doctors and experts from around the world while also offering a platform for the latest innovations in the field of dentistry.”

He added: “We call on all members of GSDA to be the ‘ambassadors’ for AEEDC Dubai 2020 Conference and Exhibition and support our efforts to be the number one dental conference and exhibition in the world by 2020. We look forward to welcoming world-renowned dentists, experts and specialists in dentistry from a number of participating countries around the world.”

While speaking about his participation in the conference, Dr. Neeraj Khanna, Private Dentist, Senior Instructor, Dawson Academy, said: “I am delighted to be participating for the fifth time in AEEDC Dubai, which has truly become a world class scientific destination for all dentists and specialists around the world. This year AEEDC Dubai, will feature a number of scientific sessions in Aesthetic dentistry and I will specifically deal with 2D and 3D methods of designing anterior teeth. I will also discuss the identification and diagnosis of occlusal disease and comprehensively examine the risks of underestimating its destructive power on other healthier teeth.”

From his side, Mawlid Chaoui, General Manager of Invisalign, Middle East and Africa, said:
“AEEDC 2018 is an important strategic conference for Invisalign MEA, and now in its 22nd edition, with the theme ‘Education & Innovation Transfer’ we are proud to be participating with the event this year. The exhibition will allow us to showcase our product innovations in the field of orthodontics that will further support the orthodontists and dentists’ efforts in the region.”

On the sidelines of the conference and the exhibition, a number of students representing different universities in the UAE and abroad have attended the 9th edition of AEEDC Dubai Student Competition, which included Ajman University of Science and Technology – Fujairah Campus, Imam Abdulrahman Alfaisal University (University of Dammam- Old), Gulf Medical University, RAK College of Dental Sciences, University of Sharjah, Umm Al Qura University and King Abdulaziz University Faculty of Dentistry among others.

The competition, allows dentistry students attending their final academic years in their respective universities to exchange and broaden their knowledge with their fellow counterparts from other countries, while also entertain questions on various topics in dentistry including Infection Control, Four Handed Dentistry, Implantology and Oral Surgery, to be recognized as “AEEDC Knowledge Champion”.

AEEDC Dubai comes at a time when the latest research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, USA, show that high rates of dental caries, commonly known as tooth decay, is among the most common chronic conditions affecting early childhood and about 1 of 5, 20 percent children aged 6 -11 years have at least one untreated tooth decay while 1 of 7, 13 percent of adolescents aged 12-19 years have at least one untreated tooth decay condition. Untreated tooth decay is a problem for more than 2.4 billion people worldwide, with some 190 million new cases forecasted each year, finds a new study in the Journal of Dental Research.

AEEDC Dubai 2018 Conference and Exhibition will continue until the 8th of February and is organized by INDEX Conferences and Exhibitions – a member of INDEX Holding.
